To work as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in Canada, all applicants must demonstrate that they have the necessary education, recent clinical experience, and have passed the required MLT entry-to-practice examinations.
The pathway you take to register and work as an MLT will depend on your education and experience.

Canadian MLT Education (in last 24 months): If you will write a CAMLPR exam within 24 months of completing a CAMLPR-approved Canadian medical laboratory technology/science program, you may create an account and register for the Fields-of-Practice exams. Read more.
The following applicants must first undergo a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) to confirm that their education is comparable to a CAMLPR-approved program before they can register for their CAMLPR Fields-of-Practice exams:
- International MLT Education: Completed medical laboratory technology/science program outside of Canada. Read more.
- Non-traditional Education: Completed program (e.g., BSc, MSc, PhD) related to medical laboratory technology/science. Read more.
- Canadian MLT Education (over 24 months ago): Did not attempt first national exam within 24 months of completing a CAMLPR-approved Canadian medical laboratory technology/science program. Read more.
Please note: Completing the CAMLPR Flexible Pathways process and passing the required exams does not guarantee registration with a provincial regulatory body nor does it guarantee employment.
