Different forms of each examination will be offered multiple times throughout the year to accommodate applicants, with exams available in-person or online to applicants located in Canada.
The exams will be computer-based and administered through a secure platform and proctored by Prometric, a third-party provider specializing in secure exam solutions.
When can I register?
Exam registration opens 10 weeks before each exam session and stays open for 6 weeks. It closes 4 weeks before the exam session begins.

When do I write my exam?
Register for the first exam session that opens after you become eligible to write (either by successfully completing a Canadian MLT program or a prior learning assessment). For example:
- If your eligibility is confirmed early September, after the registration deadline has passed for the September exam session, you will write in the November exam session.
- If your eligibility is confirmed in mid-July, while registration for the September exam session is still open, you may request to write in that session. If you do not request to write in September, you will write in the November session.
How do I register?
- Fill out the Exam Registration form in the Flexible Pathways application portal during the open registration period. If you completed a CAMLPR-approved Canadian medical laboratory technology/science program within 24 months of your exam date, you will also have to request that your official transcript be sent directly to CAMLPR. See Transcript Requirements for details.
- Wait for eligibility confirmation: CAMLPR administration will review your exam registration application to confirm you are eligible to write the exam. It may take several business days to complete the review and to confirm your eligibility.
- Get approved to register: Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be approved to register for the next available examination session.
- Pay your exam fees: After approval to register, you will be notified to pay your exam fee(s) to CAMLPR.
- Wait for payment review: CAMLPR administration will review your fee payment.
- Schedule your exam with Prometric: Once your payment is confirmed, CAMLPR will notify you that you can schedule (book) your specific exam appointment date and time with Prometric during the approved exam session.
How do I schedule my exam?
Once CAMLPR has approved you as a candidate (after completing all the steps above), you can click this link to schedule your exam with Prometric.
You will also receive a notification from CAMLPR with scheduling instructions and a link to book your exam. You cannot schedule your exam until CAMLPR has approved your exam eligibility.
You may schedule to write your exam in person at a testing centre or remotely at a suitable location of your choice. All exams must be written in Canada.
Important notes
- Exam registration and scheduling are two different processes.
- Registration
- Register early. You are strongly encouraged to register for an exam session with CAMLPR as soon as registration opens and to schedule your exam with Prometric promptly after your application is approved by CAMLPR. Registering early gives you the widest range of scheduling options. The longer you wait, the fewer time slots will be available. A time slot at your preferred location or time is not guaranteed.
- Scheduling
- Scheduling your specific exam date and time with Prometric happens after registration, payment, and payment review are all complete.
- Prometric closes exam scheduling at midnight Eastern time the night before a given exam date.
